Micromax Canvas HD A116

Micromax A116 is the third mobile in the very successful Canvas line of smartphones from Micromax. The device has 5 inches IPS TFT capacitive touch screen with HD resolution (720 x 1280 pixels) that gives an effective pixel density of about 294 PPI. The screen has AGC Sodaline scratch resistant coating which is not as effective as Gorilla Glass. The device is curved at the edges and its plastic back panel has either glossy or matte finish. It comes in White and Black colors. It weighs about 156 grams and is 10.7 mm thick.

It is powered with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6589 based on Cortex A7 processer and PowerVR SGX544 GPU. In terms of memory, the device has 1 GB RAM and 4 GB internal memory, which is expendable up to 32 GB. The phone has Accelerometer, gyrometer and proximity sensors.

The phone has an 8 MP camera with autofocus and an LED flash. The other features of the camera include geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection. It can record full HD videos. Its secondary 2 MP camera could be used for video calling and clicking self-portraits.

As the name suggests, the Canvas HD's large screen makes it an ideal device to watch videos on formats such as MP4, WMV, H.264 and H.263. The audio formats supported by the phone include MP3, AAC, WMA and WAV.

The phone comes with stock Android v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) which is upgradeable to v4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Apart from the common Android apps like Google Search, Gmail and Maps, the Canvas HD comes preloaded with Micromax apps such as Hookup, M! Zone+, M! Store and Mi Live.

The phone runs on a 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery. It promises talk time up to 5 hours and standby time of 174 hours.

In terms of connectivity, the phone supports internet access through HSDPA (21 Mbps) HSUPA (11 Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi hotspot. It has Bluetooth v4.0 and USB v2.0.
