YU Yunique

Micromax subsidiary Yu has come up with an entry-level smartphone that bears a modest price tag and also comes with decent hardware.

The Yu Yunique features a 4.7-inch IPS Fully laminated HD display that makes the screen readable while indoors but it fades away when out in the sun. The screen has a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that ensures that your screen remain scratch-free and is protected against damage from accidental drops. The power button on the smartphone is located between the volume rockers which might make it difficult for users to find the power button.

The device has 4G LTE support along with other standard options including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a microUSB 2.0 port. Also, the device has two SIM slots. The Yu Yunique packs a Li-Ion 2,000 mAh cell that should be able to get most users through the day without needing a charge.

The device is available in black colour and comes with an 8-megapixel primary camera paired with an LED flash to take images and record videos. On the front, there is a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter with 83-degree wide angle lens for taking selfies and video calling.

The smartphone runs Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box and is powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor to deliver seamless performance. In addition, there is 1GB RAM that allows users to work on more than two apps at the same time but only to a certain extent. For storing files, there is 8GB of internal storage wich can further be expanded up to 32GB using the microSD card slot.

The Yu Yunique is a low-end version of the previously launched Yu Yuphoria and is 8.3 mm thick and weighs a hefty 128 grams. Users can remove the back panel which only covers the SIM slots but the battery in non-removable. Also unlike the YU Yuphoria, Yu Yunique will be available via online retailer Snapdeal instead of Amazon, through a flash sale that needs buyers to register before they can purchase the device.
