BlackBerry Bold 4 9900

The BlackBerry 4 9900 is a 2011 smartphone that runs BlackBerry 7.0 OS and QWERTY keyboard. The phone is currently priced at under Rs. 10,000 in India, although it was a premium phone at the time of its release.

The Bold 4 has a 2.8-inch TFT VGA display with a resolution of 640 x 480 and a pixel density of 286 PPI. The phone’s display is clearly outdated in the current times of 5-inch and 5.5-inch Super AMOLED displays, but will suffice for basic mobile phone needs and entertainment purposes. The phone measures 115 x 66 x 10.5 mm and is fairly small in comparison with smartphones currently popular. The phone weighs a light 130 grams. It features a QWERTY keyboard and an optical touchpad for navigation. The phone is available in black and white colors.

The phone runs BlackBerry 7.0 OS, that the company marketed as the smartphone OS. Although it did not differ from previous versions by much, it enabled improved web browsing, HTML5 support, pinch zoom and improved Flash support. The phone runs on a single-core 1.2 GHz MSM8655 Snapdragon processor with 768MB of RAM that runs the phone with minimal lag. Storage is 8GB that can be expanded to 32GB with an SD card for personal data such as music.

The phone features a single rear camera that is 5-megapixels with LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection that takes adequately clear images, but is again, clearly not the best. The rear camera also records videos at 720p. The phone does not feature a front camera, which was the case with phones of the time. A 1,230mAh Li-ion removable battery powers the phone that lasts a few days with its non-demanding features.

The Bold 4 9900 supports a single mini-SIM for phone calls, 3G support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging. The phone supports GPS with A-GPS for improved navigation. The phone runs BlackBerry Maps.
