Micromax Canvas Juice A177

The Micromax Canvas Juice is a lower mid-range Android smartphones that is oriented towards consumers who want long battery life more than anything else. This dual-SIM device runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and features a 5-inch LCD display, a 5-megapixel camera on the rear, and a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front. The hardware internals include a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, a microSD card slot, and a 3,000 mAh battery. The box package comes with an AC charger, a battery, the handset, headphones, a USB cable, and a user manual.

The device is made up of glossy plastic material, both on the front and the back. There s home key, options menu key, and back bey below the display. Ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and the earpiece are situated above the display. The removable back can be used to remove and replace battery, SIM card, and the microSD card. The camera, dual-LED flash, Micromax s new logo, and a loudspeaker are placed on the back. Power button and volume buttons are placed on either sides of the display.

The Canvas Juice is supposed to be a cheaply-priced phablet, and hence the 5-inch multitouch capacitive display that uses a normal TFT LCD panel and an average resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The pixel density turns out to be 196 ppi, quite low for reading text, but decent enough for media consumption. The screen is not protected by any type of hardened glass, so it is relatively more prone to scratches and cracks. Thanks to accelerometer, which can detect device orientation, the UI turns automatically based on that.

The 5-megapixel rear-facing camera has an autofocus lens, and is accompanied by an LED flash. It can record 720p HD videos, but they are saved in old 3GP format that is known to have choppy frame rate and low amount of detail. There s a VGA front-facing camera that can also record videos, but don t be too hopeful with the quality.

A 1.3GHz dual-core processor from Mediatek (MT6572) is used in the Canvas Juice A177, along with 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. Only 672MB out of that ROM is accessible to the user for saving files, while the remaining storage is used by the operating system, and 1.27GB is free to install apps and games. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slot, 3G HSPA (21Mbps downlink, 5.76Mbps uplink), Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v3.0, A-GPS, microUSB v2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The device runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box along with some changes to the iconography and the apps. Micromax, as always, is bundling third-party applications like Spuul, Opera Mini, Hike, M!Live, Dancing Bubbles, Bubble X Slice, Kingsoft Office, and GMS with the Canvas Juice A177. Its 3,000 mAh battery and a power-efficent processor make sure that it lasts 282 hours of stand-by time or around 10 hours of talk-time after a single charge.
