The Apple iPhone 4S gives users the iPhone experience for less than Rs. 20,000 in India, with its excellent yet outdated features. Nevertheless, the phone is a popular alternative to the more expensive iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

The display on this version of the iPhone is a 3.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD display that has a resolution of 640 x 960 pixels that works out to a 326 PPI pixel density i.e., Retina standard. This renders the display capable of showing vivid colors albeit on a tiny display. The small screen also limits the number of apps the phone can display at a time. But on the bright side, this phone will easily fit into your pocket. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the phone from extensive damage while an oleophobic coating prevents smudges and fingerprints on the screen, while the back is protected by scratch-resistant glass. When it comes to design, the device measures 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm, making it thicker than the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s while weighing 140 grams. The phone is available in black and white colors.

The phone runs iOS 5 that is upgradable to iOS 9.3.5 on an Apple A5 chip with a dual-core 1.0 GHz COrtex-A9 processor that is capable of handling simple tasks efficiently enough, but will slow down when pushed further which is to be expected with its 512MB RAM. This version of the 4S comes with 32GB of storage with no option to expand. The phone supports Siri with which users can perform tasks such setting an alarm, making phone calls, and dictate messages/emails.

The 4S is clearly not the best in smartphone cameras with its 8-megapixel rear iSight (Apple’s name for its rear-facing cameras that feature on iPads, some iPods, and iPhones) camera with its f/2.4 aperture, and the front-facing VGA-quality FaceTime camera, both of which render low-quality images. iSight can record videos at 1080p at 30fps while FaceTime, at 480p at 30fps The non-removable Li-Po battery on the phone is another downer at 1,432mAh lasting ten hours at best.

The single micro-SIM phone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, aided by A-GPS and GLONASS, 3G mobile data. Sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and a compass. The phone comes with the old 30-pin connector for charging and syncs.
