Gionee Elife S5.5

The Gionee Elife S5.5 is the latest Android operating system based smartphone by the Chinese handset manufacturer Gionee. The maker of the phone claims it to be the world's slimmest smartphone at 5.5 MM. Below are the detailed features and specifications of the device as per official announcement.

Unlike many other Chinese phones available in the market, Elife S5.5 is a single SIM based smartphone powered with a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor from MediaTek. In terms of memory, the device has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage without any support for expanding the internal memory. But the Elife S5.5 supports USB OTG out of the box for connecting compatible pen drives. Gionee Elife S5.5 has built in complete aluminium metal alloy frame and both sides are covered with 7 layers of Gorilla Glass 3.

The device has a 5 inch Super AMOLED full HD capacitive touch screen with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution that would in turn give an effective pixel density of about 441 PPI. As mentioned earlier, the device is also dubbed to be the World's thinnest smartphone measuring at 5.5 mm. In terms of design, the device has a unibody built and the rear of the device comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The device has a 13 MP auto-focus primary rear facing camera that comes with other common camera features including geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, full HD video recording, etc. The rear camera also has an LED flash for better low-light photography. It also has a 5 MP secondary ultra wide angle (95 degree wide) front-facing camera that could be used for video calling and snapping self portraits. In terms of multimedia capabilities of the device, it supports playback of all the common multimedia formats including, but not limited to, MP3, MP4, WAV, AAC, AVI, eAAC+, etc.

Even though it is loaded with a slightly older version of Android operating system - Android v4.3 Jelly Bean, Gionee has recently provided a Android 4.4 KitKat update and loaded with Amigo UI on top of it. In terms of other software features, the device will come preloaded with other common apps and features including Google, Gmail, Google Search, Maps, Hangouts, document viewer, image & video editor, etc.

The device is loaded with a 2300 mAh non-removable Li-ion battery that should be good enough to keep the device powered for an entire day with moderate usage. In terms of connectivity features, the device supports GPRS, EDGE, 3G - HSDPA - 42 Mbps, HSUPA; Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, microUSB and USB on-the-go.
