Among the Chinese smartphone manufacturers doing business in India, there may not be another that has as fancy a backstory as Gionee does. The brand was among the earliest Chinese players in India’s mobile phone industry and the brand had its share of the pie and was reasonably well known. But the brand simply could not keep up with the onslaught of players like Oppo and Vivo and eventually went under the radar a bit. The next big news regarding the brand was when its founder and CEO lost US$144 million in a casino bet and that crushed Gionee because he had been embezzling funds. The brand was eventually acquired in 2018 by Jaina group, which also operated Karbonn Mobiles as well as runs a partnership with Japanese brand Sansui. So what have the new owners managed to do with the smartphone brand? Not much, by the looks of the new Gionee K6 that made its debut recently. The phone features a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. The phone packs a Helio P60 chipset, so you can expect pretty decent chipset performance. The phone packs 6GB of RAM with 128GB of onboard memory, so you’re good to go on the memory specs as well. Where the phone falters is its operating system, because it ships with Android 7.1, which was called Nougat, in case some of you forgot. The Gionee K6 features a triple camera rig on the back with a 16MP primary sensor and two 2MP sensors, presumably. There is a 13MP shooter embedded in the water drop notch on the front for your selfies and video calls. The battery life is decent thanks to the 4350mah cell inside the Gionee K6. Some of the popular Gionee mobile phones include the Gionee F205 Pro, Gionee S11s, and the Gionee M7 Power.
