Nokia X+

The Nokia X+ is one of three Nokia devices that run Android. The device is an entry-level offering and as such features hardware that befits its price. Under the hood, there is a 1 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU, 768 MB RAM and 4 GB internal memory. The only difference between this version and the Nokia X is the fact that it comes with slightly more RAM and comes with a 4 GB SD card as standard. You can switch out the included SD card and install your own, as long as it is under 32 GB.

From a design side of things, the Nokia X+ looks similar to devices in the Asha series. There is a single navigation button at the bottom of the touchscreen. The volume as well as power buttons are on the right hand side of the device. The screen on the Nokia X+ is a 4-inch offering that comes with a screen resolution of 800 x 480. The screen features two finger multitouch and is quite decent for a device in this category.

Nokia has included a 3.15 MP camera on the Nokia X+. There isn't a secondary camera, which might be a bit of a deal breaker for some users. The camera has a 1/5-inch sensor size, so images taken through it are clear and detailed. You can only take 480p images through the camera, but they should be sufficient to share on social networks. Multimedia users are well catered to as the device connects to Nokia's dedicated music store that lets you access local as well as international content.

After years of making Windows Phone handsets, the Nokia X+ is the first of a series of handsets from Nokia that run Android. Nokia has decided to use a forked version of Android instead of an official Google build, which means that Google services like the Play Store and Gmail will not be available on the device. Users will instead have to use Nokia's own store for downloading content and games. Nokia has mentioned that utilities like Skype and Outlook will be available, in addition to Nokia's own Here suite of services. Utilities like SwiftKey will also be available on the Nokia X series shortly. The interface is a derivative of the Fastlane user interface that Nokia demoed on its Asha series of handsets last year. The Nokia X+ also comes with dual-SIM functionality, which is a must-have for devices in the budget segment.

Connectivity is in the form of 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and micro-USB 2.0. The 1,500 mAh battery on the device should be sufficient to last the device for a full day of normal usage. Nokia devices are traditionally known for their energy efficiency, and the Nokia X+ should be no different in this regard.
