Samsung has garnered success with its mid-range Galaxy M series phone over the past few years. And now the company has started refreshing as well as upgrading its lineup to bring support for 5G segment in the series. The first such device in the market is the Galaxy M42 5G. The new Galaxy M phone boasts a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with support for HD+ resolution at 720x1600 pixels. The screen features a notch design and offers pixel density of 266 PPI. The phone comes powered by octa-core Snapdragon 750G chipset, paired with 8GB RAM giving you mid-range performance and support for 5G network. It offers 128GB internal storage that is expandable up to 1TB via the dedicated card slot. On the imaging front, the phone is equipped with quad rear camera that consists of 48MP sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor, 5MP sensor and 5MP depth sensor. On the front, the phone gets a 20MP selfie camera that also supports video calls. Galaxy M42 5G packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging via USB Type C port. Additional features that you get with the phone include on-screen fingerprint sensor, face unlock and headphone jack. Verdict
Samsung Galaxy M42 5G is an interesting addition to the mid-range lineup. It comes powered by Snapdragon 750G that gives you 5G support with 8GB RAM. You get a Super AMOLED screen but with only HD+ quality and no high refresh rate support for this price. The rear cameras are decent, and you have the One UI based on Android 11 OS. The battery back up is also decent but only supports 15W fast charging. And then, you can only expand storage using the hybrid SIM slot. By the looks of it, Galaxy M42 5G faces tough fight to attract buyers.

The Galaxy M42 5G gets a 6.6-inch AMOLED display that offers HD+ resolution at 720x1600 pixels. The screen produces pixel density of 266 PPI. The 20:9 aspect ratio screen features a notch design at the top-centre where you have front camera, and gives you a screen to body ratio of 84 percent. The device gets a thickness of 8.6mm and weight of around 190 grams. The power button and volume rocker sit on the right side of the phone. In terms of security features, the phone comes with an on-screen fingerprint sensor built under the display. You can also login using the software-centric face unlock.

Samsung is the latest brand to use the Snapdragon 750G octa-core chipset. Using this hardware makes Galaxy M42 the first phone in its series to support 5G network. It comes paired with 8GB RAM and offers 128GB onboard storage that is further expandable. You get Android 11-based OneUI 3.1 interface as the default software on the phone. Imaging duties are handled by a quad rear camera that consists of 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, 5MP sensor and 5MP depth sensor. The front of the phone has a 20MP camera that lets you click selfies, shoot videos and take video calls.
